MEDIA RELEASE - Have on your say on vision for sport and recreation

13 November 2018

The Glenelg Shire Council is calling on walkers, runners, cyclists and sport enthusiasts to have their say on local sport and recreation opportunities.

Council is currently developing the Active Your Way Glenelg Sport and Active Recreation Plan, a blue print which will guide council’s investment in sport and active recreation for the next 10 years. The plan, funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria, is the first of its kind for the shire.

Glenelg Shire recreation coordinator Hayley Rowe said feedback from the community would be essential in guiding the vision for the strategic document.

“Sport and recreation is central to our way of life and this new plan is our way of ensuring more people have the opportunity to be a part of a team, find a new running path or continue with their active lifestyle,” she said

“In order to create a plan that best reflects the needs of our active community, we are inviting residents to have their say on how they currently participate in sport and recreation activities and what future opportunities should be considered.

“Community members can leave this feedback by attending one of the many upcoming consultation sessions that will be occurring across the shire, or by completing a short survey via the Your Say Glenelg website.

“We are hoping to see a large cross section of the community represented during the consultation process, from sporting clubs and recreation groups through to service providers and local businesses.

“We want to hear from all age and interest groups in order to create a plan that can best deliver a range of fit for purpose sport and recreational opportunities and facilities to promote a healthy lifestyle.”
