MEDIA RELEASE - Get creative these summer holidays with NGV

21 December 2018

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) will return to the Glenelg Shire this January to host a series of children’s activities as part of Council’s free school holiday program.

The NGV Kids on Tour program will offer a number of art and design workshops over the summer holidays, providing children the chance to create their own 3D artworks, collages and a replica of their town.

The workshops are inspired by past NGV exhibition, New York! New York! for Kids, as well as current exhibitions, Escher X nendo | Between Two Worlds, and Being Human: William Wegman.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the partnership would give local children the same opportunities as those in Melbourne to participate in the gallery’s summer programs.

“It is fantastic to be able to host activities of such world class standards right here in our shire. Families will be able to access quality workshops run by the state’s leading art gallery to entertain their young ones over summer without the burden of travel or cost, it is a great outcome for all,” Cr Rank said.

“The Glenelg Shire will be one of 67 locations across the state to participate in the NGV program, a partnership we have held for the past three years with enormous success.

“But if art isn’t for your children there are a range of other exciting activities on offer to including mini golf, movie night and pool parties. With so much on offer these summer holidays I encourage all families to book in early to avoid disappointment – you won’t want to miss out on these free activities.”

The school holiday program is open to all Glenelg Shire school aged children up to year eight.

Bookings open from 9am on 3 January and can be made by calling each activity provider.

The School Holiday Program is currently being delivered to all shire schools and hard copies can be collected from council’s Customer Service Centres and libraries.
