MEDIA RELEASE - Nominate your business for a Business and Tourism Award

3 June 2019

Now is your chance to nominate an outstanding business or an individual to be recognised as part of a local awards program.

Nominations are officially open for the 2019 Glenelg Shire Business and Tourism Awards, acknowledging and celebrating the remarkable quality and expertise of our local business and tourism sector.

The awards include 10 business and tourism categories and two individual categories, including the new fields of Health & Wellbeing (open to businesses that demonstrate and implement a high standard of workplace health and wellbeing initiatives) and Community Enterprise (open to community or government not for profit organisations that demonstrate excellence in their service or community contribution).

Local business owner Paul Adams of Bruno Body Repairs, who received a 2017 Business and Tourism Award in the category of Manufacturing, Trades or Construction, said it was a fantastic feeling to be publicly rewarded.

“It was a huge honour to receive a Business and Tourism Award in the category of Manufacturing, Trades or Construction Business. It’s not often that you have the chance to be recognised amongst your peers at a local level,” he said.

“Since receiving the award Bruno’s Body Repairs has had some major changes and we are now operating at about double the capacity as we did previously thanks to the construction of a second large workshop space on our site.

“The award helped to provide the Bruno’s team with the confidence to invest further in our business and expand our operations. The results speak for themselves; we’re the busiest we have ever been.

“I encourage my peers, other local businesses, tourism operators and community organisations to make the most of this unique opportunity and nominate for the 2019 Business and Tourism Awards. The impact the award may have upon the recipient could be life changing, as it was for Bruno’s.”

This year will be the third Glenelg Shire Business and Tourism Awards since its return in 2016. Judging of the awards is completed by Small Business Mentoring Services (SBMS), who also provide mentoring sessions for each of the category finalists.

Entry is open to all businesses and individuals located within the Glenelg Shire. Applications open on 3 June 2019 and close 28 June 2019.

Judging, mentoring sessions and interviews are held 9 – 11 July, with the Gala Awards Night to be held on Friday 2 August 2019.
