MEDIA RELEASE - Dartmoor Children's Centre rated amongst Australia's best

20 June 2019

Dartmoor Children’s Centre has been officially recognised as a leading early childhood education and care service as part of a national review.

The rural centre has recently been awarded the title of ‘exceeding’ the national service standards as part of the Federal Government’s National Quality Standards (NQS) rating and assessment process.

The review saw Dartmoor Children’s Centre assessed against seven quality areas, including children’s health and safety, collaborative partnerships with families and communities, relationships with children and leadership, with all areas rated as exceeding the NQS.

Glenelg Shire Children’s Services Manager Janine Johnstone said it was an excellent result not only for the service, but for the broader Dartmoor community.

“Council staff and educators are delighted with this fantastic outcome which acknowledges the service’s dedication to providing exceptional early learning programs for our rural based families,” she said.

“The service had been previously rated as “meeting” the national standards when assessed in 2013, so this review really highlights the impact of our strengthened program delivery, relationship building and innovation over the past six years.

“The assessment report acknowledged our authentic partnership with the community, with particular recognition of the Business Plan Working Group and the successful Child Care Subsidy application earlier this year.

“The service was also commended for the high level of strong leadership and governance, including the ongoing commitment to quality improvement and the delivery of an inclusive program.

“Families across the Glenelg Shire can be confident that their child will be accessing the highest quality early childhood educational programs no matter where they live in the Glenelg Shire, with all six of council managed kindergarten and pre-kindergarten services now rated as ‘exceeding’ the national standards.”

The NQS sets a high national benchmark for early childhood education and care and outside school hours care services in Australia.

Services are assessed and rated by their regulatory authority against the NQS, and given a rating for each of the service quality areas and an overall rating based on these results.
