MEDIA RELEASE - Call out for Skittles youth group members

10 October 2019

Looking for a safe and inclusive space to socialise with like-minded young people? The Skittles Youth Diversity Group are on the lookout for new members and are inviting all interested young people to join.

Skittles provides an inclusive social environment for same-sex attracted and gender diverse people and their allies aged 12-25 in the Glenelg Shire. The group was established in 2014, with sessions facilitated by council’s youth development team.

Skittles group facilitator Lauren Millard said she was looking forward to reinvigorating the group by offering a number of new events and activities.

“Skittles is an opportunity to make friends with people just like you. We aim to provide a social network for LGBTQIA+ youth in a safe and supported environment,” she said.

“Following a brief hiatus, the group is looking to once again host regular catch up sessions and events with the support of new members.

“Throughout Term 4 we are hoping to run a number of catch ups, such as café hang outs, organised activities and games, creative sessions and more. The group can be whatever you want it to be, and there are plenty of opportunities to incorporate any activities you want to see included.

“I encourage all young people interested in joining Skittles to simply send me a message on my mobile and introduce yourself, I hope to welcome a number of new faces to the group.”

Interested members can learn more about the group by joining the Skittles Diversity Group Facebook page, or by contacting Lauren Millard on 0428 890 593.
