MEDIA RELEASE - Let it be the return of the Twilight Cinema

12 February 2020

Calling all Beatles fans, let it be and relive your favourite music with a night of food, wine and entertainment at the return of the popular Twilight Cinema event in Portland.

Hosted by the Glenelg Shire Council, the Twilight Cinema event will take place on Friday 21 February from 6:30pm at the Portland Library, Bentinck Street. The event will celebrate the music of The Beatles with the screening feature film ‘Yesterday’, which explores the notion of waking up to a world void of Beatles music.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the location of the cinema had moved from the Botanic Gardens to the Portland Library to officially unveil the facility’s new outdoor deck and coincide with the city’s visit of cruise ship Seven Seas Navigator.

“We’re thrilled to host another twilight cinema event this February. These events have become a must-do on our shire’s busy summer events calendar and provide a relaxed setting for community members to connect and enjoy free family friendly entertainment,” she said.

“This twilight cinema will celebrate our brand new deck at the Portland Library, which will offer prime viewing of the Portland Harbour to farewell our cruise ship visitor the Seven Seas Navigator.

“Eventgoers can kick off the evening from 6.30pm on the deck, with a glass of beer, wine or cider from Koonara Wines or Club Brewing on hand and street food from Jofflyns Fish N Chips, Halliday’s Butchers, Rotary BBQ and Pick-A-Pita. There will even be some desserts on offer for those with a sweet tooth.

“From 6:30pm – 8pm local performers The Dads will perform acoustic Beatles tunes before we settle in at 8.30pm to watch ‘Yesterday’. It’s going to be a fantastic night celebrating what’s great about summer in Portland and I hope to see community members of all ages coming along to this great free event.”

Cr Rank encouraged Casterton and Nelson residents to mark the future Twilight Cinema dates in their calendars.

“As always we will take our Twilight Cinema on a roadshow across the shire for all of our communities to enjoy,” she confirmed.
“For Casterton families, the Twilight Cinema will visit on Saturday 21 March and for those in Nelson, the Twilight Cinema will return with a community market on Saturday 28 March.”
