Get ready to recognise and celebrate our diverse community next month as part of annual International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) celebrations.
The Glenelg Shire Council in partnership with Kyeema Support Services will host an International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) event on Wednesday 3 December from 10am to 2pm at Alexandra Park, Portland.
This free, family-friendly event is part of a global United Nations initiative that aims to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.
The day will be packed with inclusive and engaging activities for all ages, including:
- A barbecue lunch and coffee van
- Craft activities and a smoothie bike
- Indoor and outdoor recreational games
- A green screen experience with Powerhouse Productions
- Exciting displays of emergency vehicles, speedway and classic cars
- A vibrant percussion workshop
Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said the event was a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together in celebration of diversity and inclusion.
“Mark your calendars for a fun-filled day of activities, games, displays, music and more as we recognise the International Day of People with Disability this December,” she said.
“This annual event highlights the achievements and contributions of people with disability in our community, while also encouraging us to build a more inclusive and welcoming region.
