We encourage responsible management and care of pets and animals in the Glenelg Shire. There are various local and State regulations relating to animal ownership, including registration of domestic animals and livestock. 

Dog and Cat Registration

All pets kept in Glenelg Shire Council must be microchipped and registered.

All farm working dogs in Glenelg Shire Council must be registered.

Livestock

Livestock are a vital part of our community. Owners are responsible for adequate fencing and permits are required to drove and graze livestock.

Contact Council After Hours

After hours call outs are restricted to the following circumstances:

  • Dog attacks on humans (physical and threatening)
  • Dog attacks on animals
  • Stock wandering on Council-managed roads
  • Injured domestic animals or attendance requests from Victoria Police

Local Laws Officers cannot attend a call out if the caller details and location are not provided.
