Councillor Expenditure

In the interests of accountability and transparency the Councillor Expenditure Quarterly Report is provided to Council following each quarter of the financial year.

In accordance with Section 40 of the Local Government Act 2020 a Council must reimburse a Councillor or a member of a delegated committee for out-of-pocket expenses which the Council is satisfied:

  • are bona fide expenses; and
  • have been reasonably incurred in the performance of the role of Councillor or member of a delegated committee; and
  • are reasonably necessary for the Councillor or member of a delegated committee to perform that role.

Council must also provide details of all Councillor expenses to the Audit and Risk Committee in accordance with Section 40(2) of the Local Government Act 2020 .

Further, Council must adopt and maintain an expenses policy in relation to the reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses for Councillors and Members of Delegated Committees” in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Local Government Act 2020.
