Online Terms of Use

1. Online Communities

While encouraging rigorous debate and the sharing of diverse opinions, Council expects community members to treat each other with respect and courtesy. These standards apply to interaction within all Glenelg Shire managed accounts established on third-party social media sites.

Please note that behaviour which is deemed to be anti-social will not be tolerated. We reserve the right to delete inappropriate activity and to ban any community member who consistently demonstrates this type of behaviour.

Our guidelines are as follows:

  • Remain respectful - please be respectful of others and their opinions and refrain from behaviour which is offensive, harassing or discriminatory. This includes the use of harassing others through private messages, inappropriate language and views that are racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit or otherwise objectionable.
  • Don’t get personal - do not harass others or make personal attacks.
  • Be yourself - please post under your own name or include your name in your profile.
  • Comments from anonymous, misleading or suspicious profile names may be deleted, regardless of topic.
  • Stay on topic - off-topic, inflammatory, repetitive, offensive, defamatory or inappropriate comments may be hidden or deleted.
  • Observe the law - do not post anything which breaks the law or encourages others to engage in unlawful activity, such as breach of copyright, defamation or contempt of court.
  • Profanity - profane language will be removed, as this page is family-friendly and will remain respectful to all community members.

Additionally, there may be times where moderation support is not available. Council managed social media accounts are only moderated within business hours, so we may have to limit comments after hours to mitigate the risk of any content being produced that violates our terms listed above.

2. Contributing content

You are responsible for all content you contribute to any of Council's online services or social media sites, including text, photos, videos, audio and links.

By posting your own content you are confirming you own or have the right to use any copyright material included in your content, that you have permission of anyone appearing or performing and that you are not infringing any person’s rights by submitting the content to Council.

You also confirm you have, where appropriate, sought the consent of the parent or guardian of any person under the age of 18 who is featured in your content.
