‘Tis the season to celebrate and community members can get into the Christmas spirit this Friday in the CBD with live music, markets, late night shopping and a visit from the jolly man in the red suit himself.

Council is hosting a Christmas Street Party this Friday 16 December, from 6pm – 8:30pm across Percy, Julia and Bentinck Streets in Portland, offering free festive activities for the whole family.

The event will boast live music at four different locations across the CBD, a FReeZa Youth Laneway including local DJs, community markets, kids activities including face painting and roaming performer and the traditional annual Santa Visit with the CFA.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Scott Martin said there would be something for the entire family, no matter the age.

“With the Committee for Portland Gin Tasting Laneway for the adults, the Youth Laneway for the teenagers and activities including a Christmas Fairy and Santa Visit for the children, the Street Party caters for all ages,” he said.

“We know the annual Santa visit will be a big drawcard for the event, and in a first he will be visiting more than six locations across the Portland CBD throughout the evening. This means there will be plenty of opportunities for families to catch Santa and share their Christmas wish lists with him.

“Families can jump onto our website and download the Street Party Map, which details the specific times and locations for each Santa visit.”

“Community members can also use the Street Party as a chance to see the Christmas displays entered as part of the Retail Window and Light Display Competition. With public judging now open, residents can jump onto our Facebook page to vote for their favourite entry and help determine the winners for this annual competition.

“Join the biggest Christmas Street Party in the region this Friday, and help ignite the festive spirit in our Shire.”
