Mayor and Deputy Mayor 2023

There has been a change in leadership as Councillors this week voted in a new Mayor and Deputy for the 2022/2023 Mayoral Year.

Cr Scott Martin has taken over the reigns of Mayor of the Glenelg Shire from long-serving Mayor Cr Anita Rank, who had previously held the position for a record-breaking 6 years consecutively.

Mayor Cr Scott Martin will be joined by Deputy Mayor Jayden Smith, who has taken over the position from Cr Karen Stephens.

Both Mayor Cr Scott Martin and Deputy Mayor Jayden Smith have quickly embraced their roles as Councillors, taking on these key leadership positions in only their first terms as Councillors.

"It's a role that I am very lucky and humbled to receive as there are exciting times ahead for the Glenelg Shire," said Mayor Cr Scott Martin.

"A power of work has been done in the background by council staff and the CEO over the past few years to get us in an enviable situation. We have got some big projects we are in the midst of delivering and really exciting opportunities on the horizon.

"We are at a crucial point in our shire where the projects and the good work we do now will set us up for generations to come. So its head down and full steam ahead.

"I would also like to acknowledge the great work of the previous Mayor, Cr Rank and the great working relationship she had with the CEO. They have set the foundations for a very bright future in the shire. I can't hope to replace but only succeed her."
