  • Lighting up council buildings in orange;
  • Featuring books focused on the themes of respect and gendered-violence in Glenelg Libraries and across our early years settings;
  • Delivering internal staff training on how and where to refer community members to The Orange Door for family violence support;
  • Progressing Council’s Gender Equality Action Plan;
  • Hosting a community screening of ‘It Starts With Us’, a short-film highlighting the impact of family violence on children.

Mayor Karen Stephens said Council has also partnered with the regional partnership across the Barwon South West region, Respect 2040, which is focused on preventing violence against women and advancing gender equality.

"By supporting these local partnerships and initiatives, underpinned by the funding support of Respect Victoria and Safe & Equal, we are taking a united stand for a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected,” she said.

“Community webinars are also being held as part of the Respect 2040 partnership through Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West. If you can’t make any of the 16 Days of Activism community events happening across the Glenelg Shire in person, you can show your support and attend one of the virtual webinars instead.”

Community members and businesses are encouraged to decorate their windows in orange, light up their buildings, or display a SayNo2Family Violence poster to show their support.
