Heywood community members can now enjoy free activities each Saturday morning as part of a new initiative at the Heywood Library.

Since October last year the Heywood Library has opened every Saturday between the hours of 10am-1pm for members to browse, borrow and explore. Now the Library branch is expanding its offerings, providing a suite of regular arts, crafts and mindfulness activities for weekend patrons.

Library and Information Services Manager Tanya Flockhart said she hoped to see community members taking the opportunity to test their creative skills in a safe and supportive environment.

“Every Saturday locals and visitors alike can visit the Heywood library to participate in free activities such as mindful journaling, crossword and puzzles, still life painting and origami,” she explained.

“All materials are supplied and it’s just about having fun and connecting with other like-minded people. As the activities vary each week, we hope to see a variety of ages making the most of this free weekend offering.

“But it’s not just Heywood - our Portland and Casterton branches are also open every Saturday and Portland will also has a range of free activities available for community members to enjoy.

“There has never been a better time to visit your local library this Saturday.”
