The region’s emergency services are uniting next month for a free expo to educate the community on staying safe this summer and during all emergency situations.

The Glenelg Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee is hosting an inclusive, family-friendly event on Saturday 3 December 2022 from 10am – 2pm to educate the community on emergency preparedness ahead of the summer and fire season.

The Glenelg Emergency Services Expo, to be held on the Portland Foreshore, will connect the community with local emergency services including Victoria Police, CFA, FRV, VICSES, Ambulance Victoria, Australia Red Cross Portland Surf Life Saving Club and Volunteer Portland Coast Guard among others.

The Expo will also feature free entertainment and activities including Wicked Wildlife presentation, free face painting, free coffee and barbecue, giveaways and more.

Glenelg Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee Chair Greg Burgoyne said the free event also coincided with local markets and the annual Toy Run, providing plenty of options for local families or visitors to head into the Portland CBD.

“After a hiatus due to the pandemic, we are delighted to bring back the Glenelg Emergency Services Expo this summer,” he said.

“The expo will showcase what our emergency services can do, putting their vehicles, equipment and capability on public display. Our local services will also share important information about being prepared ahead of time for the pending summer fire season, and in the event of any emergency.

“But it won’t all be learning – there will be plenty of fun activities to entertain the whole family. There will be free face painting, Wicked Wildlife presentations and local radio station MIXXFM/3HA will also be presenting live on air from the event.

“We’re also excited to welcome Deputy Commissioner from Emergency Management Victoria Amanda Leck who will be attending the event to network with the community and our local agencies.

“There will be plenty happening down at the Foreshore with a number of other community events taking place, providing a perfect incentive for families to come down to the Expo and enjoy a day out full of free entertainment.”
