Honour our volunteers and celebrate our achievers across Glenelg Shire

Glenelg Shire is gearing up for a big National Volunteer Week, with four events planned across the Shire.
The week, which runs from 20-24 May, will be celebrated with receptions at Heywood, Portland, Casterton and Nelson.
Along with recognising our volunteers, Council will also be honouring the winners of our new community awards at the reception closest to their home.
The award winners were confirmed by Council this week.
Heywood is first off the rank, with a function at the Heywood Community Hall at 5.30pm on Tuesday, 21 May.
The Portland Arts Centre is the venue for a function at the same time on Wednesday, 22 May.
Then it’s on to the Casterton Town Hall at 5.30pm on Thursday, 23 May before the Nelson Hotel wraps up the week at the same time on Friday, 24 May.
Glenelg Shire Mayor Karen Stephens said she hoped for good turnouts at each of the events so Council and the community could celebrate all those individuals and groups that made living in our Shire so great.
“Volunteers are often referred to as the glue that holds our communities together and in Glenelg Shire we are privileged to have more than our fair share of volunteers, above the average for Regional Victoria,” Cr Stephens said.
“The most recent Census shows one in five residents of the Shire were volunteers, and we’d love to see as many of them as possible at these events, as well as honouring those Community Awards recipients who have gone above and beyond in their efforts.”
While volunteer groups throughout the Shire have been contacted about the events, there is still time to RSVP if you haven’t received an invitation by emailing events@glenelg.vic.gov.au by 3pm Monday, 20 May (the date for these has been extended).
