A vision for Island Park has been set, following the endorsement of a key document.

At the September Council Meeting Councillors adopted the Island Park Master Plan setting a clear direction for the future of one of Casterton’s most important community, recreational and tourism spaces.

The Master Plan outlines a 10–15 year vision for the popular reserve, providing a roadmap for future development and infrastructure.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said the Master Plan was a critical step in ensuring Island Park continues to thrive as a multi-use precinct.

“Island Park is at the heart of so many community activities in Casterton—whether it’s sport, recreation, camping or major events. In fact, it is one of the most utilised assets in our Shire, being home to ten licenced user groups,” she explained.

“This Master Plan provides a clear framework to help us prioritise upgrades, seek grant funding and deliver improvements that meet the current and future needs of our community.

“On behalf of Council, I want to thank every community member, club and stakeholder who took the time to share their views and aspirations as part of the consultation process. This feedback has shaped the final document and ensures Island Park remains a diverse and functional space for all.

“We look forward to working with stakeholders, funding partners and our local community to help deliver on this vision.”

The Master Plan outlines future projects such as:

  • Flood lighting additions to existing tennis and netball courts;
  • Improved pedestrian paths and connections throughout the precinct;
  • Flood mitigation actions.
