Following the storm in Casterton on 16 October 2024 the Kathleen Millikan Centre, which provides early childhood education and care services in the town, has been closed due to the damage sustained to the building.

It will now be closed for a further week as Council’s building contractor undertakes a full assessment on the repairs needed and what options there are for re-opening.

Parents and carers of affected children were notified of the further delay on Friday.

Glenelg Shire Council Director Community Services Jayne Miller said staff were working hard to try to get back to business as usual but, given the highly regulated nature of Early Childhood Education and Care, strict processes had to be followed to ensure the safety of children and staff.

“We, like you, are keen to get services back to normal from the building as soon as possible and are working with our building contractor on a timeline for this,” Ms Miller said.

“The contractor needs to fully assess the damage and our options before a decision can be made on when and how we will return to full service.

“We will have a further update later this week, but we apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.”

The storm caused a huge amount of damage in Casterton and residents, businesses and Council have all been working hard to try to return to normality.
