The new L2P Car for Heywood with sponsors

Council is excited to announce a major boost for its L2P Program in Heywood, thanks to the generous support of local organisations. A brand-new vehicle has been purchased to help young people gain vital driving experience with the guidance of volunteer mentors.

This achievement was made possible through funding contributions from:

  • Heywood and District Community Bank
  • Masonic Lodge Portland
  • Magistrates Court

Council extends its sincere thanks to these organisations, particularly the Heywood and District Community Bank, for their ongoing commitment to supporting community projects in Heywood.

The L2P Program, funded by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and administered by the Department of Transport and Planning, is delivered locally by Glenelg Shire Council. It supports young people who may not otherwise have access to a supervising driver or vehicle, helping them achieve the 120 hours of supervised driving required to obtain their licence.

Having a dedicated L2P vehicle based in Heywood means eligible young people can now access a safe, reliable car to complete their supervised driving hours. This program plays a crucial role in helping learners build confidence and work towards obtaining their licence. In fact, one local learner has already successfully gained her licence using the new car!

The program is actively running across the Shire, with vehicles now based in Portland, Heywood, and Casterton, ensuring that young drivers in each major township have the opportunity to participate.

Council is now actively recruiting both young people and, importantly, volunteer mentors to join the program. Mentors provide invaluable support and guidance to learners, helping them become safe and responsible drivers.
