New look for Heywood courts revealed

A splash of green has transformed one of Heywood’s most popular community assets.

The Heywood Recreation Reserve has received a much-anticipated face-lift, undergoing a full resurfacing and line marking upgrade across all four courts.

The project has delivered a contemporary green playing surface, replacing the previous asphalt courts surface, with works including:

• pressure cleaning;
• repair of cracked areas;
• application of professional coating to both playing surfaces and runoff zones.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said the reserve remained the “heart” of the town and the upgrades would ensure community sport, particularly for juniors and women, would continue to flourish.

“These upgrades will help extend the life of the courts through both the summer tennis season and the busy winter months when netball takes centre stage,” she explained.

“We know how important community sport is to our townships, and Heywood is no exception. Both the tennis and netball clubs boast high junior participation rates which, in addition to providing health and social benefits, help ensure these sports continue to grow at a local level.

“Players and spectators alike will now enjoy the benefits of this new surface, whether it’s for regular competition, weekend matches or casual community use.”
