The recent adoption of the Glenelg Shire Council fees and charges schedule for 2024-25 has brought great news for Glenelg Libraries members with our libraries becoming fines free.

There are now no overdue fines for late items for adult library users, bringing them into line with children and youth library members, who have not had to pay overdue fines for some time.

Glenelg Libraries manager Tanya Flockhart said it was in line with a growing trend.

“A majority of public libraries across Victoria are fine-free, and we are excited to join them,” she said.

“We know overdue fines sometimes mean community members may have stopped coming to the library, and so we are removing this barrier.

“If you have overdue items hiding out at home, in storage, in the car or somewhere else come in and return those items and rediscover what your local library branch has to offer.”

Charges will still apply for lost items, but these will be removed as soon as the item is returned to the library.
