Pathway project coming to Casterton

Casterton is to get a new pedestrian pathway to ensure school students and mobility impaired residents can assess a key crossing point.
The footpath will be built from Marshalls Road to the Casterton Secondary College and direct users to a designated pedestrian crossing point on the highway.
This project is possible thanks to more than $194,000 in funding as part of the Victorian Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program (FLTSP), including contribution from Glenelg Shire Council.
Connecting into an existing network allowing aged and mobility impaired users to access services more readily at the nearby Casterton Memorial Hospital, the footpath will be Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant and allow all-weather access for school students and local residents.
The significant investment will provide improved accessibility for mobility impaired people to schools, healthcare and the wider town footpath network.
Glenelg Shire Mayor Karen Stephens said she was delighted the project would now be able to proceed.
“We welcome the funding for this crucial pedestrian link and I know our community will welcome this footpath, which has been a missing link in Casterton’s transport infrastructure,” Cr Stephens said.
“Investment in this type of infrastructure is critical to increase accessibility for all members of our communities.”
The FLTSP is administered by the Department of Transport and Planning and provides funding to local government and community organisations for small-scale transport projects, evidence-based transport studies, and funding to redesign and trial new ways in which transport services at a local level can be delivered across the state.
