Glenelg Shire Council has welcomed the announcement of Timberlink Australia as a new partner in The Precinct, saying the move reinforces Portland's growing reputation as a destination for renewable industry, advanced manufacturing and regional investment.
The partnership strengthens plans for a proposed world-scale advanced timber manufacturing hub in the Green Triangle, with the potential to deliver jobs, attract investment, and generate long-term economic benefits for the region.
Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said the addition of Timberlink demonstrates increasing industry confidence in both The Precinct and the Green Triangle's long-term potential.
"This is an important milestone for a project that has the potential to deliver significant economic benefits for Portland and the broader region," she said.
"The Precinct is about creating more value from the resources grown in our backyard, supporting skilled local jobs and attracting new investment into Glenelg Shire."
The proposed development would focus on manufacturing high-value engineered timber products used in modern and sustainable construction, helping position Portland at the forefront of emerging renewable and low-carbon industries.
Cr Stephens said the project aligns strongly with Council's advocacy priorities.
"As we continue to advocate for investment in transport, freight and port infrastructure, projects like The Precinct highlight the opportunities that can be unlocked when industry chooses to invest in our region," she said.
