What’s been happening on Glenelg Shire Council-managed roads?

Sealed Road Rehabilitation

Annual road rehabilitation works are well underway on various roads and streets across the shire.

These roads are identified through Council’s asset condition inspections as reaching end of pavement life. These include:

• Ridge Road South in Henty, west of Clancy’s Lane (pictured) which has now been completed.

• West Strathdownie Road at Strathdownie of which culvert replacement works have been completed and pavement works are now underway.

• Bentinck Street in Portland which is undergoing major pavement works between Townsend Street and Wade Street and asphalt resurfacing between Otway Court and Townsend Street.

Sealed Road Resurfacing

The road resealing program is underway on about 60 roads covering 42km across the shire.

Road resealing is a part of Council’s preventative maintenance works, giving the road a fresh protective layer to ensure longevity of the pavement and a smooth surface.

These works began in Portland and are moving north through the shire.

Unsealed Road Resheeting

Gravel road resheeting has begun, undertaken by Council’s works crews.

Unsealed roads require periodic resheeting whereby new gravel is placed on the road to replace the material lost through weather and traffic.

About 21km of roads are due to undergo these works beginning in the north of the shire and moving south.

As the construction period rolls out, please be mindful of works being undertaken on our roads.

Please watch out for and be respectful of traffic control so we can ensure the safety of motorists and workers.
