Temporary Road Closure - Portland Foreshore
Published on 14 October 2022
As part of the Portland Foreshore Redevelopment Connecting Paths Project, two pedestrian crossings are being installed on Lee Breakwater Road. The crossing on the inroad from Bentinck Street will be painted on the road and the crossing near the carpark south of the Yacht Club will be a raised painted crossing.
Installation
Installation of the crossings is underway and is due to be completed by the 29 October 2022. As part of this installation a road closure will be in place for the installation of the raised crossing as shown in the map above. This road closure is scheduled from Tuesday, 18 October 7.30am to Friday, 21 October 2022 4.00pm.
During this time access to the foreshore will be via the following:
- Access to the Yacht Club, Town Jetty, Maritime Discovery Centre or Nuns Beach – please use Bentinck Street entrance.
- Access to the carpark south of the Portland Yacht Club is also accessible via Bentinck Street and people can park here to access the nearby small play area and barbeques.
- If accessing the Pulambeet All Abilities Play Space and Lee Breakwater Road to the south of the Play Space including the Skate Park – please use the Cliff Street entrance.
- Access to the T.S. Henty Naval Cadets building will be from the Cliff Street entrance and can be organised with the contractors on site or by contacting myself (please see details below).
How to use the crossings
For vehicles: At a pedestrian crossing you must give way to pedestrians crossing. You must not overtake a vehicle that's stopping or has stopped to give way to pedestrians who are crossing. You must not drive onto the crossing if the road ahead is blocked.
Please watch your speed when approaching a pedestrian crossing.
For pedestrians: When using any type of crossing you should: always check that the traffic has stopped before you start to cross or push a pram onto the crossing. Always cross on the crossings as marked, do not cross at the side of the crossing, as it can be dangerous.
