Youth Fest 2024 in Glenelg Shire provided several local young people with an opportunity to engage in videography through hands-on workshops.

These were designed to help participants articulate their perspectives, foster community connections, and develop essential technical and teamwork skills.

The sessions were led by well-known industry professionals Peter and Blake Corbett from Powerhouse Productions and the Glenelg Shire Council Youth Team and were funded by the state government through the Youth Fest and FReeZA streams.

Apart from learning, there was also a film competition called "Living Through the Lens", supported by Promoting Portland, which encouraged both workshop participants and other youth across the shire to express their viewpoints about their hometown through video.

The winners were announced, and films showcased, at a launch event on Monday 28 October 2024.

These films continue to be exhibited at the Julia Street Creative Space in Portland and can also be found across the Glenelg Youth Team and Promoting Portland social media platforms, effectively amplifying advocacy for young voices.

The program saw an increase in knowledge and skill amongst young people wanting to create or coordinate video content and provided an opportunity for them to use this to promote our shire.
