Glenelg Shire Councillors and CEO are ready to celebrate National Volunteers Week

Calling all volunteers, you are invited to help us celebrate! As part of National Volunteer Week, the Glenelg Shire Council will host Volunteer Recognition Receptions across the Shire during May 18 – May 21 to recognise the role of volunteers.

Events will take place in Heywood, Portland, Casterton and Nelson, with all members of the public welcome to come along and celebrate the work of volunteers in their local communities.

Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said the events were an important chance to recognise the “lifeblood of our local community”.

“Volunteers play a vital role, lending their time and talents, for no reward or remuneration, to make our Shire the great place it is to live, work and play,” she said.

“These Volunteer Recognition Receptions will recognise the many coaches, canteen volunteers, gardeners, L2P driver mentors, meals-on-wheels deliverers and more who keep our community thriving.

“As part of these events, we will also announce the 2026 Glenelg Shire Community Awards winners, including the prestigious Citizen of the Year Award. We look forward to honouring those individuals and groups who have gone above and beyond for our Shire, and celebrating them at a Recognition Reception closest to their home.”
