HOOKED ON FESTIVAL 2020

The countdown is on to one of Portland’s biggest weekends, with the return of the popular Hooked on Portland festival next weekend.

Television chef and sustainability advocate Paul West, and Melbourne based rock/folk duo Pierce Brothers will headline the festival’s free entertainment offerings, which will take place on 23 April 2022 along the Portland Foreshore.

The festival will also feature cooking demonstrations, food trucks, markets, Australian Fishing Champions workshops and clinics, kids’ amusements, Skatepark League Australia competition and more than 8 hours of live music, ensuring entertainment for the whole family.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank anticipated Portland would be “buzzing”, with the festival also coinciding with the final weekend of the Hooked on Tuna fishing competition and the Easter school holidays.

“All roads lead to Portland for what will be one of the busiest weekends we’ve seen for 2022, with an array of premier free entertainment for the entire family,” she said.

“Paul West of River Cottage Australia fame will appear at the Victorian Fisheries Authority Catch and Cook stage, supported by fishing television personality Lee Rayner. West will provide cooking and filleting demonstrations and will discuss the importance of sustainability and sourcing regional supplies.

“West is one of this country’s most loved chefs and was a huge hit at our 2019 festival - we are delighted to be able to welcome him back. Paul will also be presenting at an intimate Author Event at the Portland Library on the 24th April, with a limited number of tickets still available via Eventbrite.

“In terms of live music, our main stage is jam-packed full of local and much-loved artists. The Pierce Brothers will headline the live music stage, supported by a string of popular local artists such as The Settlement, Flynn Gurry, Dean Outtram and Damon Yuill and Since Tuesday.

“The Pierce Brothers have remained one of the most talked-about and loved acts of Hooked on Portland thanks to their infectious energy. We know audiences will be delighted that they can once again see the brothers live amidst the backdrop of the stunning Portland Foreshore.

“There is something on offer for everyone and we can’t wait to welcome back crowds to the Glenelg Shire for this iconic event.”

Hooked on Portland was first launched in 2018 and is coordinated by the Glenelg Shire Council in partnership with the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA), and supported by Regional Development Victoria. The event aims to promote Portland as a regional destination of choice and highlight its many fishing, food and tourism offerings.
