MEDIA RELEASE - Pakula returns to Hooked on Tuna

27 March 2018

Internationally renowned fisherman Peter Pakula will once again return to Portland to headline the final weekend of the 2018 Hooked on Tuna fishing competition.

The Queensland based fisherman, who has received worldwide success from making and designing lures, will feature as a guest speaker at the final weigh in event on Sunday 29 April at the Portland Angling Club.

Mr Pakula said he was delighted to venture back to Portland following his previous presentation in 2017.

“I am thrilled to be invited back to speak at this year’s Hooked on Tuna event and to help announce the winners of the 2018 competition,” he said.

“I had a lot of fun last year discussing the Pakula Tackle success story and demonstrating how to rig and present game fish lures.

“This year I hope to reveal some other insider tips and tricks of the trade, including what best equipment and techniques to use to lure some of those heavy 100kg plus catches that Portland is notorious for.”

Mr Pakula said he was anticipating some record weighs in this year with the competition extending over five weekends from 31 March to 29 April.

“With even further opportunities to try your luck out on the water this year, I expect we will see some record breaking catches in the 2018 Hooked on Tuna competition,” he said.

Hooked on Tuna entrants will again be vying for more than $12,000 in prize money, with weigh-ins each Saturday and Sunday afternoon coordinated by the Portland Sport Fishing Club with support from the Portland Lions Club and Portland Coast Guard.
