MEDIA RELEASE - De Crespigny flies into Glenelg Libraries

25 September 2018

Famed pilot and bestselling author Captain Richard de Crespigny will touch down at the Glenelg Libraries next month for an inspiring author event.

de Crespigny will appear at the Portland Library on Wednesday 10 October at
2pm to discuss his latest novel Fly! which offers advice on how to build resilience in both professional and personal situations.

Library and information services manager Yvette Parker said community members would recognise de Crespigny and his heroic involvement in a near miss flight in 2010.

“de Crespigny has become a household name and a legend amongst the aviation circles after he famously rescued a routine flight to Sydney from imminent disaster,” she said.

“On 4 November 2010, thousands of feet above the air in Singapore, a catastrophic explosion rocked the QF32 flight. In the cockpit, Captain de Crespigny and his team worked tirelessly to land the plane safely, with not one of the 469 passengers or crew injured.

“This story was recounted in his debut book QF 32, which quickly became a bestseller. In his new book Fly! de Crespigny will discuss his experience in high-stakes situations, the mentors and leaders in his life who’ve had a profound affect on him, and the lifelong heroes who all helped mould him to the person that he is today.

“Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear from one of Australia’s greatest pilots. Throughout his author talk de Crespigny will teach attendees how to build resilience, perform at your best and succeed in any situation.”

Richard de Crespigny – FLY! is a free event and bookings are required. Copies of Fly! will be available to purchase on the day.
