MEDIA RELEASE - Great Day Out planned for Glenelg Seniors

3 October 2018

Seniors across the Glenelg Shire will once again kick up their heels this October for the return of the popular Senior’s Great Day Out.

The Senior’s Great Day Out event will be held on 18 October at the Portland Civic Hall from 10am and will offer a full day of entertainment, ranging from live music through to trivia and a light exercise session.

Glenelg Shire Council aged and disability services manager Symonne Robinson said she was expecting to welcome another sell-out crowd through the doors.

“Last year we experienced enormous success, with the event reaching full capacity as 300 community members passed through the Civic Hall, which was just fantastic. I expect that we will once again sell out this year with high levels of enquiries and interest already being shown,” she said.

This year’s event will feature various live music acts, including South Australian acoustic trio Me ‘N Me Mates performing well-known traditional country and folk music.

Mrs Robinson described the band as bringing a contemporary approach to well-known traditional songs from music artists, such as Banjo Patterson and Slim Dusty.

“An invitation is extended to all seniors right across the shire to join the fun day of entertainment with our main act, Me ‘N Me Mates with supporting entertainment provided by YMCA Upright and Active and Shaun Spencer,” she said.

“The event is all about getting out and about in your local community and trying something new or different in a fun and friendly atmosphere.”

Free bus transportation will be provided from Casterton, Dartmoor, Digby, Heywood, Merino, Nelson and Sandford.

Bookings to the event and registration for bus transportation are essential. To RSVP please contact Glenelg Shire Council’s Home and Community Care (HACC) Services via phone on 5522 2204 or email before 4pm on Thursday 11 October 2018.

The Seniors Great Day Out is held in conjunction with the 2018 Victorian Seniors Festival and is supported by the Department of Health and Human Services.
