Community grants

Cash injections for hall and facility upgrades, community events and sporting equipment will be delivered in the latest round of the Glenelg Shire Council’s Community Grants program.

A total of 31 not-for-profit groups and organisations shared in the latest funding round, valued in excess of $81k.

Some of the beneficiaries include:

  • The Hotspur Vintage Rally, now entering its fourth year, which received $1,061 to help provide key facilities including a first aid officer and office tent, ensuring the event continues to grow while maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all;
  • The Portland Dahlia Society, which has received $2,000 in support for its ongoing work in presenting one of the largest Dahlia shows in Australia;
  • The Portland Dog Obedience Club, which received $2,185 to support purchases for its second competitive dog trial, to be held at Nelson Park in late November;
  • The Casterton District Cricket Club, which received $1,498 to complement existing refurbishment works at the Pavilion to create a more user-friendly facility. This includes new kitchen appliances such as a fridge, pie warmer and chest freezer, providing better amenities for both cricket and little athletics participants.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said Council was proud to provide ongoing support to the shire’s not-for-profit organisations and hardworking volunteers.

“It’s always fantastic to see so many passionate community groups putting forward applications to bring their ideas to life,” she said.

“This round was once again extremely competitive, which highlights the growing demand for grassroots support and the dedication of our local organisations.

“I’m especially pleased to see funding being injected into projects right across the Glenelg Shire, from Merino to Narrawong, Hotspur to Bahgallah, Sandford to Portland, ensuring even our smallest communities are represented and supported.

“Importantly all money delivered will be injected straight back into the local economy, supporting not just our community groups, but local businesses and tradespeople. I congratulate all of our recipients and I look forward to seeing the impact these grants have upon our community.”
