Local youth shine at Battle of the Jams

Young local musicians took centre stage at the Hooked on Portland Festival during the highly anticipated Battle of the Jams competition, held on Friday 16 January at the Hooked on Portland Stage.
The event featured 11 outstanding performances from talented youth artists, including Grace Rosalee, Ameliah Hulonce, Matilda Andrews, Zoe Borthwick, Bonnie Jackson, Kale Peggie, Gabriel Strachan, Concrete, Jack Caithness and Jasi Sierra.
Glenelg Shire Youth Development Officer Meghan Bennett praised the incredible talent on display.
“It was wonderful to see so many young people showcasing their creativity and passion for music at the Battle of the Jams,” she said.
“Congratulations to all the artists, especially our winner Zoe Borthwick who was recognised for her bubbly stage presence, expressive vocals and original songs.
“Events like Battle of the Jams give emerging artists a chance to perform in front of a live audience and help strengthen our vibrant arts and music community.”

The evening featured an Art Showcase, highlighting the creativity of young artists, as well as the screening of the 2025 Portland Re-engagement Anti-Vaping Project film funded through VicHealth.
Artists shared their work via a digital display, showcasing the diverse ways young people express themselves.
Adding to the excitement, the event was co-hosted and MC’d by Clayton Osborne who kept the crowd entertained between acts with his witty personality and natural interviewing skills, under the mentorship of Les Horovitz.
Battle of the Jams continues to provide a platform for young artists to shine and contribute to Glenelg’s vibrant arts scene.
