Portland Foreshore Parking

Council adopted the Portland Foreshore Parking Strategy at its meeting in March 2014.

The aim of the strategy is to:

  • establish clear direction in regards to parking in all areas of the foreshore;
  • cater for all users of the foreshore including commercial fishers, recreational fishers, tourists, clubs and the general community; and
  • alleviate ongoing issues of vehicles with boat trailers monopolising the parking spaces along the Portland foreshore, restricting members of the community from using the foreshore space for other recreational activities.

The parking strategy allows for free parking in all designated parking areas for cars. Specific areas have been designated for vehicles towing boat trailers and a fee will apply for these vehicles to park.

The Portland Foreshore Project continues to implement the broader vision of the Portland Bay Coastal Infrastructure Plan with the opening of the new marina and boat ramp. The cost to Council to meet fishers and boaters expectations in maintaining and servicing a boat ramp, adjacent parking and fish cleaning facilities is substantial.
