A great work of art – but it needs a new home

Recently, the mysterious local artist who has previously installed metal animal sculptures from recycled materials around Portland was back with another impressive artwork.

This time they installed a very large spider web, with resident redback and her fly victim in the Portland Botanic Gardens.

Although, Council admires the time and effort put into the sculpture, unfortunately it has had to be removed due to the unsuitable location, being erected in the Heritage-listed gardens.

Despite the heroic effort to secure such a large structure, the gardens are not the right place to tie ropes to tree branches.

There is also the potential of someone being injured if they were to climb the sculpture and it were to fall over.

But such a great artwork deserves a home – Council is happy for the elusive artist to make contact to discuss having the sculpture erected at a more suitable site or to arrange for the item to be picked up.
