Glenelg Shire Councillor Jayden Smith has resigned.

Cr Smith tendered his immediate resignation from his role on Wednesday.

He was the youngest Councillor in Glenelg Shire Council’s history when he was elected in 2020 at the age of 25.

“I wish all the staff the best and I appreciate the opportunity to have the role that I had,” Cr Smith said.

“Every staff member at Council does such a good job.”

Cr Smith’s resignation creates an extraordinary vacancy, and Council has notified the Minister for Local Government and the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) as per the Local Government Act 2020.

The VEC will initiate a process to fill the vacancy.

Further details will be published on Council’s website as soon as they are available.
