A community favourite is set to hit the Portland Foreshore again, with the return of the Glenelg Emergency Services Expo.

Held every two years, the Expo will run between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, 7 December.

Hosted by the Glenelg Shire Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee, it is designed to allow the public to view and experience the equipment and professional services offered in Glenelg Shire by our emergency services.

Emergency services such as Ambulance Victoria, the Country Fire Authority, the Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action, Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria State Emergency Service, Victoria Police, Coast Guard Portland, Portland Surf Life Saving Club, Salvation Army, Australian Red Cross and Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation will all be on site with displays and staff to interact with the public.

Emergency Management Victoria Assistant Commissioner John Felton will also be attending the Expo as a guest.

The Expo also takes place early in the Fire Danger Period and is another way to raise awareness about the upcoming bushfire season.

Glenelg Shire Council, along with local fire and emergency organisations, is also holding events in Dartmoor and Casterton this weekend, while Council has also brought back its popular annual free green waste disposal from Monday, 25 November to Sunday, 8 December so fire preparedness should be at the front of mind during this time of year.

So bring the whole family to the Expo and come along and meet some of the emergency management staff and volunteers who will be happy to show off all of their toys and answer any questions you may have.

There will also be free giveaways and a barbecue.
