The Heywood Recreation Reserve is one of the most used facilities in the township and planning is well advanced to ensure it remains a major part of the future.

Council on Tuesday evening voted to send the draft Heywood Recreation Reserve Masterplan out for public consultation – though it won’t be straight away.

The Masterplan was developed after consulting with the user groups and other stakeholders and has been done in order to help guide future decision making and determine resource allocation for asset development and maintenance works at the park.

The plan provides guidance to Council to ensure future development of facilities support increased participation, fiscally responsible future investment, and considers current and future recreation needs.

A Masterplan is also essential in order to apply for State or Federal grant funding – the draft Masterplan includes works of nearly $1 million over the next 10-15 years.

Glenelg Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Helen Havercroft said while Council had approved the community consultation period, the community would get to have its say on the Masterplan later this year.

“Due to the Local Government Elections scheduled for October 2024, we will be entering Election Period on 17 September,” she said.

“This means we won’t be able to complete community consultation before that time so it will be done after the election.”
