The age-old excuse of “there’s nothing to do” won’t quite ring true for kids in Glenelg Shire in January, with a range of activities being offered through the School Holiday Program.

Glenelg Libraries, Glenelg Youth, Portland Maritime Museum and Portland Arts Centre are combining to ensure a fun-filled program of events across the shire.

Running from 7-24 January the events include a hands-on activity at the Portland Maritime Museum learning how rocks are formed, “Carve, Cook, Create” at the Casterton Library and Youth HQ, Bogong moth art at Heywood and Portland libraries and the popular Theatrepalooza performing arts workshop for young people at the Portland Arts Centre.

There’s also the return of stand-up paddle boarding lessons at the Portland Foreshore, which proved a hit with young people across the shire last summer.

For details on all activities, including a downloadable program, please visit the Glenelg Shire Council website.

A few things to remember:

  • Bookings are essential for all sessions.
  • Activities are FREE and materials are supplied where required.
  • Our school holiday programs are very popular and usually book out. If you can no longer attend, please

call to cancel so that another child or young person can participate.

  • Parents and carers must remain with children under 12 years of age during all sessions.
