Welcome to Youth Services! We empower young people aged 12-25 with opportunities that enhance their well-being, development, expression, enjoyment, and resilience.

GSC Youth Charter: Engage, Empower and Value

The Glenelg Shire Council developed the Youth Charter to provide a ‘whole of Council’ approach for engaging with young people and promoting their participation in planning, service delivery and decision making.
We completed a Youth Audit to ensure that the Youth Charter contained meaningful and achievable outcomes for both Glenelg Shire Council and our young people. We collected information via a survey and focus group sessions during departmental meetings.

The results from the Youth Audit, the Voices and Choices Project and focus group sessions with the Glenelg Shire Council's Youth Advisory Group (YAG) have underpinned the development of the Youth Charter.

Live4Life Glenelg

Live for life logo
The Live4Life Glenelg initiative aims to ensure that young people, teachers, parents and the wider community are better informed about mental ill health and are proactive in identifying the signs and symptoms of an emerging mental health issue before a crisis occurs.
The Youth Live4Life model is the only mental health education and youth suicide prevention model designed specifically for rural communities
There are four key components of the Live4Life model:
  1. Support, coordination and mentoring from Youth Live4Life’s staff
  2. School and community partnerships
  3. Mental health training
  4. “The Crew” - Live4Life’s youth leadership and participation program
Live4Life Glenelg was launched in 2017 and is delivered in partnership with the four secondary schools, South West Institute of TAFE and five community partners: GLLEN, the Department of Education, Victoria Police, Barwon and Portland District Health.
Currently the initiative has one corporate sponsor, Portland Aluminium.
The lead agency is Glenelg Shire Council.
