Date change for Statutory Council Meeting
Published on 30 August 2024
Council enters the Election Period on 17 September at noon, until 6pm on October 26.
Once the vote has occurred and been declared an important first step for the new Council is to elect a Mayor (and Deputy Mayor should they so choose). This happens at a Statutory meeting.
To make sure this happens in an orderly fashion the first public meeting of the new 2024-2028 Glenelg Shire Council needs to be held on a new date.
Council on Tuesday evening voted to hold the 2024 Statutory Council Meeting on Wednesday, 20 November.
This is two weeks later than the date adopted at the 2023 Statutory Council Meeting.
The change has come about following a firming up of the timelines for the 2024 Local Government Elections. It is anticipated that the election result will be declared on Friday, 8 November, two days after the statutory meeting was originally scheduled.
In order to allow for induction and other mandatory training before the statutory meeting, it will now be held 12 days after the declaration of the result.
The first scheduled monthly meeting of the new Council is then likely to be held on Tuesday, 26 November, subject to approval at the statutory meeting.
All Council meetings are open to the public. Please come along and see your Councillors in action.
