Glenelg Shire Council election declared

The Victorian Electoral Commission has today officially confirmed the seven successful candidates who will serve as Glenelg Shire Councillors for the next four years.

Congratulations to Karen Stephens, Michael Carr, John Pepper, Mike Noske, Robyn McDonald, Matt Jowett and Duane Angelino who will serve as Councillors for the 2024-28 term.

Glenelg Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Helen Havercroft said she looked forward to building a strong working relationship with the Councillors-to-be over the coming period.

“With a mix of experience and newcomers it is exciting to be a part of the team supporting Councillors to shape the future direction of the Glenelg Shire with the 2025-29 Council Plan a crucial piece of work to be completed early in their term,” Ms Havercroft said.

The Council Plan is a key document of Glenelg Shire Council and sets the strategic direction of the Shire over the next four years.

Ms Havercroft also thanked all of those who put their hands up to be Councillors.

“Six candidates were unsuccessful this time around and I thank them for showing a passion for their community in seeking to be elected,” she said.

“I hope they consider doing so again in future. A healthy democracy is reliant on there being lots of interest in representing your community.”

Before the successful candidates officially become Councillors they must first take the Oath of Office, and this ceremony will take place on Monday, 11 November.

Over the next month, the new Councillors will also take part in a formal induction program, outlining the responsibilities and expectations of their role.
