Council has endorsed its new Council and Wellbeing Plan 2025–2029, setting a clear direction for the next four years to support a thriving, inclusive and sustainable region.

Adopted by Councillors at the September Council Meeting, the Plan outlines how Council will deliver services, meet community needs, support the local economy, manage assets and ensure ongoing financial sustainability.

The Plan also brings together the Community Vision, Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan and Council Plan into one integrated document – a first for the Shire.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said the new approach strengthens transparency and ensures all areas of Council’s work are aligned under one clear direction.

“This Plan brings together our strategic priorities into one unified document, making it easier for our community to understand Council’s direction and hold us accountable. It also reflects our commitment to inclusive planning and long-term wellbeing for the Glenelg Shire,” she explained.

The Council and Wellbeing Plan 2025–2029 has been developed following extensive community engagement and is structured around six key themes:

  • Leading and Engaging
  • Thriving Towns and Communities
  • Sustainable Environment
  • Essential Services and Facilities
  • Moving Around Glenelg
  • Growing Economy

The Draft Plan was placed on public exhibition throughout July and August, with community feedback commending Council’s commitment to inclusivity and preventing family violence, while also highlighting areas for improvement including safety, transport and environmental sustainability.

“We’re grateful to all those who took the time to share their thoughts and ideas throughout this process. Whether it was at the initial stage of idea collection through to refining our Draft Plan, your feedback helped shape a more responsive Plan that reflects the voices of our community,” said Cr Stephens.

“As a new elected Council, we’re excited to get started and deliver on these priorities. We want Glenelg Shire to continue being a place where people feel welcome, supported and proud to live, now and into the future.”
