Activities these school holidays

These school holidays, the Glenelg Shire has a jam-packed schedule of fun activities for children and teenagers.

The Glenelg Libraries, Portland Arts Centre and Glenelg Shire Youth team are running various free activities and events respectively to entertain all ages and interests.

Kids Events

  • Sensory Play

Ages 5-12 years

Glenelg Shire primary students had their say, and the winning activity is Sensory Play.

Thanks to their votes, we’re bringing you a hands-on experience of squishy slime making, miniature modelling, and other exciting surprises.

Youth Events

  • NGV Program- Make a Pompom with Sophie Honess

Ages 13-19

Create a bush flower pompom using yarn, embroidery thread and colourful felts. Tag it to your school bag, key chain or anything!

Sophie Honess is a Gomeroi Yinarr artist based in Tamworth, New South Wales. Her works are inspired by her immediate environment, finding and exploring hidden beauty on Gomeroi country through colour and texture.

  • Youth Song Writing Workshop

Ages 16-21

SongMakers and the Glenelg Shire Council are hosting a FREE songwriting workshop at the Portland Arts Centre on 7-8 April! Over two days, you’ll work with other participants and professional producers to write and record a song from scratch in a real-world co-writing session!

Registrations closed 28 March - please contact the Glenelg Shire Youth team for availability.

Family Events

  • Libraries After Dark - Games Night

All ages

Come along to the Portland Library from 6pm and take part in a games night. You can come alone or bring your family! There will be a range of games set up for you to try.

  • Bunny Portraits - Saturday Arts, Portland Library

All ages

Hop, skip and jump to the Portland Library to make a bunny portrait just in time for Easter.

  • Libraries After Dark - Paddington Movie Screening

All ages

Come along to the Portland Library for movie night and follow the comic misadventures of a young bear from Peru with a passion for all things British, who travels to London in search of a home.

Dates: Portland Library - Thursday 17 April, 6pm-8pm
