Welcome to the Glenelg Shire Council

Optional Rural Kerbside Collection Service

Council is offering a kerbside waste and recyclables collection service to owners of properties that are on or near a number of designated roads through the Shire.

The service can include a mix a weekly collection of waste in a 120L Mobile Garbage Bin and a fortnightly collection of recyclable materials in a 240L Mobile Recycling Bin. Bins must be delivered to, and collected from, the designated road.

The following sections of roads are designated waste collection routes:

• Bridgewater Road, between Portland and Cape Bridgewater.
• Bridgewater Lakes Road, between Bridgewater Road and Heath Road.
• Heath Road, from end of Bridgewater Lakes Road to Portland-Nelson Road.
• Portland-Nelson Road, between Portland and Nelson.
• Winnap-Nelson Road, between Princes Highway and Portland-Nelson Road.
• Princes Highway, between Dartmoor and Heywood.
• Portland-Casterton Road, between Casterton and the Princes Highway.
• Princes Highway and Henty Highway, between Heywood and Portland.
• Princes Highway, between Portland and Tyrendarra.
• Dutton Way Road, between Portland and Dutton Way.
• Tyrendarra-Ettrick Road, Condah-Ettrick Road and Condah Macarthur Road, between Tyrendarra and Condah.
• Henty Highway, between Condah and Heywood.
• Cape Nelson Road, Portland, between Madeira Packett Rd and Cape Nelson Lighthouse.

Residents that live along, or near any of these designated routes may elect to receive this service by completing and signing a “Request for Domestic Waste Collection Service” form which is available by contacting Council’s Customer Service Centres or downloaded by clicking on the link below.

By signing this form, you are agreeing to pay Council’s annual garbage charge and to receive the required service. The annual garbage charge is currently set at $173.50 (Inc. GST) per waste bin and $113.20 (Inc. GST) per recycling bin for 2020/2021.

Bins will be delivered to properties after receipt of the signed form. The collection contractor will assist residents, where necessary, with bin placement and will typically leave the empty bin in the desired collection position.

Residents are encouraged to participate in this service to maximise the recycling of materials and to minimise the requirement to visit landfills or transfer stations to dispose of waste.
