MEDIA RELEASE - Budget to deliver on priority projects

26 June 2019

A vision for the Glenelg Shire for the next 12 months has been set following the adoption of Council’s 2019/2020 Budget and 2019/2020 – 2022/23 Proposed Strategic Resource Plan.

Councillors last night endorsed the $50 million Proposed Budget and the Proposed Strategic Resource Plan in its entirety, voting to invest in recreation facilities, local roads and priority projects for the new financial year.

The budget includes a comprehensive $13 million capital works program and a $1.3 million commitment to projects as identified in the 2017- 2020 Council Plan, such as the All Abilities Play Space, access to the Portland Foreshore and the Hanlon Park Lighting Project.

A further $6.8 million will be invested in new priority projects, such as the Henty Employment Precinct, Alexandra Park and rehabilitation works at the Portland Landfill.

Fees and charges have also been kept at a minimum with an increase of 2.5 per cent, as per State Government recommendations and consistent with CPI.

Cr Rank described the Budget as “an important roadmap for the next 12 months”.

“Council is pleased to endorse another budget that promises quality services, programs and facilities for our residents,” said Mayor Cr Anita Rank.

“This is a financially responsible document, ensuring we are operating efficiently and effectively, whilst also delivering on projects that our community is truly passionate about.

“This is reflected in the delivery of the shire’s first dedicated All Abilities Play Space at the Portland Foreshore, a project the community has strongly advocated for, and the Henty Employment Precinct, which will unlock investment and create further job opportunities in North Portland.

“It is incredibly rewarding to see projects such as this delivered in this year’s Budget, there is no better time to live, work, play, study and invest in the Glenelg Shire.”
