Become a Teen Mental Health First Aid Instructor

Live4Life Glenelg are seeking community members who are interested in becoming a Teen Mental Health First Aid (TMHFA) Instructor.

Live4Life delivers TMHFA throughout the Glenelg Shire and is the only mental health education and youth suicide prevention model designed specifically for rural and regional communities. The Glenelg Shire Council is the lead agent to delivering Live4Life in Glenelg, supported by a partnership group, which is made up of representatives from health, community, and education services from across the Shire. Portland Aluminum is also a major sponsor of the Glenelg Live4Life program.

The TMHFA Instructor training course is being delivered through a partnership with Youth Live4Life and forms an essential part of the Live4Life Glenelg program. The instructor training is being offered to community members who work with young people and would like to support the implementation of the Live4Life program across the Glenelg Shire.

Once trained, instructors will deliver TMHFA in school communities across the Glenelg Shire, teaching secondary school students how to provide mental health first aid to their peers.

Live4Life partnership officer, Lynda encourages anyone who works with youth to take the opportunity to become a qualified instructor. “Upskilling the community to deliver the training is essential to ensure the continuation of training to our Youth across the Shire” she said.

The four-day instructor training will be held in Melbourne in December and expressions of interest are open until Monday, 30 October 2023. Glenelg Shire community members with relevant skills and experience can submit an application or find out more about the instructor training, here.
