The role of Town Crier was created for Syd Cuffe in 1983 in the lead up to Portland's 150th anniversary celebrations. In 1985 Syd was named Citizen of the Year in recognition of his contribution to Portland's 150th celebrations. He continued as an ambassador for Portland, and later the Glenelg Shire, for 30 years. Dressed in his magnificent costumes, he was a regular fixture at civic and community events. This display includes a selection of items donated by Syd's estate after his death in 2013.

10am to 12noon & 1pm to 4pm
(Except Good Friday and Christmas Day)

$12,000 worth of money and prizes is up for grabs this April in Portland’s annual Hooked on Tuna fishing competition.
Anglers are expected to travel from across the country in lure of the elusive tuna catch for the competition which runs over four weekends from 6 April to 28 April from the Portland Yacht Club.
Hosted by Glenelg Shire Council in partnership with the Portland Sports Game Fishing Club and Portland Lions Club, the competition includes a new tag and release category further strengthening the sustainable fishing practices of the competition which requires all fish to be gutted and bled.

Sandford Swap Meet and Market

And something a little different is happening…………..the Swap Meet and Market is going to be organised by the 1st CASTERTON SCOUT GROUP!

This is going to be one of their major fundraisers for the year, SO COME AND SUPPORT THEM!!

Come up, down or over to the Sandford Football Reserve in Sandford and enjoy the hospitality and atmosphere of the 1st Casterton Scout’s Swap Meet/Market.

And to all of the Car and Bike Clubs out there..........take a drive and join them. Whether that be as stall holders or just to show off your cars.

National Trust Heritage Festival - St Stephens Church

A National Trust Heritage Festival event "St Stephens Church". Victoria's oldest Anglican Church's history stretches back to the town's initial founding in 1834. See this beautiful house of worship, and the role it has played in the town's community. Guided and self-guided tours of the church will be available every Saturday from 20 April to 18 May. Entry fee by donation.

RSPCA Victoria's mobile cat desexing clinic will be in Portland Victoria from Monday April 29 to Friday May 3, 2019 where our qualified veterinary staff will be desexing cats for the reduced fee of $40 for males and $50 for females.
The fee includes a free microchip (where required).

Bookings are essential. Cats must be in good health and aged between 9 weeks – 10 years old. Vaccinations will also be available for an additional $10.

This offer is available to residents of Glenelg Shire.

Join the Victorian Gorse Taskforce at our demonstration day in Portland on Tuesday 30th April.

Entry to site will be from Wilsons Road.

There will be a practical demonstration of best practice gorse removal, information on upcoming grants and refreshments provided.
