MEDIA RELEASE - Donate and waive your fines this December at your local library

7 December 2017

Glenelg Library members will have the chance to show their support for the community this Christmas as part of a new campaign.

During the month of December the Glenelg Libraries will offer library members the opportunity to waive their overdue fines by donating gifts or non-perishable items as part of the Food for Fines campaign.

Glenelg Libraries Acting Library and Information Services Manager Tanya Flockhart said the initiative was a great way for library members with overdue fines to wipe the slate clean and help out those most in need this festive season.

“As part of the campaign members can contribute non-perishable food items or unwrapped gifts for people in need of support.

“In turn, if the donors have library overdue fines then Glenelg Libraries would waive these fees in acknowledgement of their generosity.

“It is great way for library members to give back to the local community, as well as providing an opportunity for those with long-term overdue fines a chance to reconnect with their local library again.”

The Food for Fines initiative will be offered at Glenelg Libraries branches in Portland, Heywood and Casterton.

Glenelg Libraries will partner with Salvation Army, Portland and St Vinnies, Casterton to ensure the donated goods reach those most in need within our communities.

Items of non-perishable food for donation need to have packaging intact with best before dates in 2018. Gifts, such as toys and other small items, are required to be new and unwrapped. Donations will not be required to match the total of overdue account fees.

Charges on members’ cards relating to lost or damaged items will not be included within the promotion.

For further information, or to donate an item today, please contact your local Glenelg Libraries branch.
