MEDIA RELEASE - Cr Rank makes history as new Mayor

8 November 2018

Cr Anita Rank has made history in the Glenelg Shire Council Chambers after being re-elected for a third consecutive term as Glenelg Shire Mayor.

The Portland-based councillor, who first joined the chamber in 2012 has become the first Mayor to be re-elected for a third consecutive term.

The passionate community advocate said it was a “great honour” to represent the shire for another term.

“The quality of publications, plans and reports delivered, particularly in the last year, demonstrates what a proactive and forward thinking council we have here in the Glenelg Shire. I am proud to be in a position to be able to take a stance on social issues and speak up for those less fortunate in our community,” she said.

“During my two terms as Mayor I have been involved in many significant events and announcements; the most noticeable highlight from this year was the inclusion of the traditional owners in our Reconciliation Week events, a newfound tradition I hope to continue.

“I am proud to represent the Glenelg Shire for another term as Mayor; I am very excited for what the future will bring for our region.”

Cr Rank achievements during her time as Mayor have included securing funding for major events such as the return of the successful Hooked on Portland festival, support for the continuation and growth of the great south Coast cycling tour and taking an active role to promote investment opportunities in the region through chairing council’s Stakeholder Development Forums.

Fellow councillors expressed their support for Cr Rank and her contributions as Mayor.

“I believe our Mayor has led us with great extension at both a regional, state and even national level over the past year, her skills and capacity are widely recognised and supported within the shire,” Cr Geoff White said.

“We thank Cr Rank for her tireless contributions to the shire, the past year has been very rewarding and as a council we have achieved many great things under her guidance,” said Cr Chrissy Hawker.
